2026 MyCARE Stakeholder Summit
The 2026 MyCARE Stakeholder Summit, held September 7–8 in Broomfield, Colorado, brought together patients, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, advocates, public health voices, and other stakeholders to identify practical priorities for improving fungal disease research, education, advocacy, diagnosis, treatment access, and patient engagement.

From Discussion to Action
Turning Community Priorities Into a Roadmap
Building on MyCARE’s patient-centered focus group work, the Summit moved beyond discussion and toward action. Participants worked across priority areas affecting people with antifungal-resistant infections, hematologic malignancies and stem cell transplantation, solid organ transplantation, biologic therapies, and other immunocompromising conditions.
Across those communities, several themes consistently rose to the top. The strongest cross-Summit priority was earlier and improved diagnostics, followed by accelerated drug development, access to diagnostics and treatment, and education and awareness for both patients and providers.

Earlier & Improved Diagnostics
Improve the speed, accuracy, availability, and clinical use of diagnostics so fungal infections can be identified and treated sooner.
Drug Development
Accelerate the development of new antifungal therapies and create more patient-centered approaches to clinical research and regulatory strategy.
Access
Reduce barriers that prevent patients from accessing appropriate diagnostics, treatment, expertise, and supportive resources.
Education & Awareness
Give patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals practical information that supports earlier recognition, informed decision-making, and better care.
Summit participants worked together to identify and prioritize opportunities across research, education, advocacy, access, and patient engagement.
Patient Experience as Evidence
Lived Experience Belongs at the Table
Summit participants emphasized that patient and caregiver experience must be treated as essential evidence when shaping research questions, educational tools, clinical trial design, regulatory strategy, and advocacy priorities.
Bringing lived experience together with scientific, clinical, public health, and advocacy expertise helped participants examine the same challenges from multiple perspectives—and identify solutions that are both meaningful to patients and practical for the broader fungal disease community.
Post-Summit Evaluation
Participants rated the overall value of the Summit highly, and unanimously agreed that combining lived experience with professional expertise improved the quality of the priorities identified.

What Comes Next
A Framework for Action
The Summit created a clear action framework for MyCARE’s next steps. The work now shifts from identifying priorities to organizing the people, partnerships, and resources needed to move them forward.

Capture the major themes, priorities, and action areas identified by participants and share them with the broader community.

Name Owners & Working Groups
Assign responsibility for moving specific priorities forward and create focused groups around areas where collaboration can have the greatest impact.

Launch a Diagnostics Workstream
Build on the strongest cross-Summit priority by bringing together stakeholders focused on earlier, better, and more accessible fungal diagnostics.

Convene Drug-Development & Regulatory Stakeholders
Continue the conversation around clinical development, regulatory pathways, patient-centered trials, and opportunities to accelerate new antifungal therapies.

Develop Practical Education Tools
Translate Summit priorities into useful resources for patients, caregivers, clinicians, and other members of the fungal disease community.

Maintain Ongoing Patient & Caregiver Engagement
Establish a regular cadence for continued participation so patient and caregiver perspectives remain part of the work as priorities move from planning to implementation.
