Fungal Disease Awareness Week 2025 – Archive

September 15-19, 2025

Fungal Disease Awareness Week is September 15-19. Each day will highlight a different fungal disease topic. For #FungalWeek25, raise awareness to help protect people, plants, and animals from the growing impact of fungal diseases. We’ll have materials in English and Spanish. Monday, 9/15:Testing and Antifungals

Misdiagnosis of fungal diseases can lead to severe illness and the development of antimicrobial resistance if you are given the wrong treatment. If you are taking medication and not getting better, ask your doctor about fungal disease testing. #FungalWeek25 https://bit.ly/3YUkbob

Early diagnosis of fungal infections is key. MyCARE has resources on diagnostics. Learn more about the diagnosis of aspergillosis, invasive candidiasis, Valley Fever, and non-Aspergillus molds.

Fungal diagnoses are often delayed, leading to poor outcomes. Watch mycology expert Dr Patrick Mazi discuss the barriers leading to delayed diagnoses of fungal infections and strategies to overcome those barriers.

The road to the diagnosis of a serious fungal infection can be long and arduous. Watch the stories of patients who have gone through a diagnostic odyssey as part of their journey with serious fungal infections.

Tuesday, 9/16: Fungal Disease Are Everywhere

People can get fungal diseases from contact with an infected animal, skin scrapes that are exposed to fungi in dirt or plants, and from breathing fungal spores in the air. Learn about how fungal diseases are a One Health issue. #FungalWeek25 https://bit.ly/4cvKYKN

Fungal infections are on the rise. They are in the air, on animals, and beneath our feet. Learn about the potential relationship between Valley Fever and the California wildfires.

Wednesday, 9/17: Neglected Tropical Diseases

For #FungalWeek25 raise awareness about fungal skin infections like chromoblastomycosis, sporotrichosis, and mycetoma. Improving early access to diagnosis and treatment can prevent severe infections and complications. https://bit.ly/470gm2H

When we think of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), we might not think of the United States. But we have NTDs in the United States. Watch mycology expert Dr Patrick Mazi discuss fungal NTDs in the United States.

Thursday, 9/18: Lung Infections Won’t Go Away

Fungal pneumonias—Valley fever, histoplasmosis, & blastomycosis—are often misdiagnosed. Treatment delays can lead to severe, sometimes chronic, symptoms.

Raise awareness about fungal pneumonias to help increase early diagnosis and treatment. #FungalWeek25 https://bit.ly/3YUANfl

Sometimes fungal infections look like bacterial pneumonia. But when a respiratory infection doesn’t get better with antibiotics, it’s time to think about other causes. Learn about the patient/caregiver experience with fungal pneumonia by watching Larry’s story.

Friday, 9/19: Fungal Diseases and Drug Resistance

Fungal diseases are increasing worldwide and are developing #AntimicrobialResistance to the drugs designed to treat them.

Antifungal resistance is a growing problem.  Even common infections are sometimes resistant. Check out the infographic on what to do if you suspect a resistant ringworm infection.

Living with a resistant fungal infection is tough. Watch this panel discussion with patients living with resistant fungal infections, led by MyCARE’s own Rob Purdie.
